The Cross Of Christ

The cross of Christ, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in the history of all humanity. At one moment in time Almighty God and the sinner are brought into a relationship where they become one. Romans 5:10-11. “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary put away sin - forever! John 1:29. John the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world.”
The diagnosis of the human problem is sin. The remedy is the blood of Jesus Christ at the cross at Calvary – the atonement. When we say the cross we are not talking about a piece of wood or metal around one’s neck. We are talking about the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made on our behalf as both Great High Priest and the Sacrifice. There was only one priest that could offer up the sacrifice and only one sacrifice acceptable to Almighty God and Jesus was both. No other religion in the world has anything that compares to the cross of Jesus Christ. If the message of the cross is true (and it is) then it is the most important event (with the resurrection) in human history.
Keep the cross central! Why? Because without the cross there is no power for your marriage, or your ministry or your life. If we don’t give the cross it’s rightful place, our place loses its meaning and power. The end result is that we end up with a nice state of generalities or Christian ethics, which are impossible to keep. No one can keep the Sermon on the Mount without the power of the cross. Hebrews 10:14, “For by one sacrifice He has perfected forever them that he has sanctified.” Only once! It has been perfected forever! As far as God is concerned it is perfect and complete forever. Nothing can be added to it and nothing can ever be taken away from it.
Let us take healing for example. Consider the work at Calvary. By His stripes we were healed. ‘It is finished.” It is perfectly perfect or perfectly completed. If we can understand what Jesus did for us on the cross, then everything physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially, socially, everything we will ever need for all time and eternity has already been provided for at the cross where Jesus was the sacrifice. By one sacrifice He (Jesus) has perfected FOREVER them that are being sanctified.
This is all by the Father’s grace. There is no reason to it. God the Father gave it to you. You can’t earn it. You can only believe it by faith. Stop trying to earn it. The Father God did it because He loves us. It is a sovereign choice by God Almighty. On the cross Jesus bore our rebellion and all the consequences of the evil caused by rebellion. Thank you Jesus!
