Complete In Christ
Colossians 2:9 in speaking of Jesus says “For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form (giving complete expression of the divine nature).” Verse ten goes on to say “And you are complete in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life (in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and reach full spiritual stature). And He is the head of all rule and authority (of every angelic principality and power).” Amplified Bible. John 1:16 “And of His fullness have we all received, and grace for grace.” Ephesians 3:19-20, “And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that you ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” I want you to notice the phrases “made full”, “having come to fullness of life”, “you too are filled with the Godhead”, “reach full spiritual stature”, and “filled with all the fullness of God.”
The theme of Paul’s letter to Colosse was the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ. The Colossians had a mixture of different philosophies including angel worship, what we would call New Age practices, and legalism (adhering to Old Covenant practices such as food and drink restrictions, and celebrations of feast days or new moons, or Sabbaths). My point and Paul’s point is this – Jesus did it all! The Incarnate Son of God did what the Law, philosophy, and mysticism could not do and will never do and that is make us complete in Christ! Is Jesus enough? Is He lacking in authority or ability to meet the needs of all people today? Do I need to achieve spiritual fullness through special knowledge and self discipline or did Jesus pay it all at the cross at Calvary?
May I say this to you friends – the only requirement or qualification for experiencing God’s favor is to believe. Believe what? Believe in the finished work of Christ. That now by grace through faith in the sacrifice of Christ at Calvary that we have received abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, and that we reign in life by one, Jesus Christ! Hebrews 10:14, “For if by one offering He has perfected forever them that are sanctified.” So what does that mean to us today? It means that I cannot have a generational curse. Galatians 3:13, “For Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law having been made a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree.” It means that the blessing of Abraham of Genesis 12:1-3 and Genesis 24:1, “And God blessed Abraham in all things”, are mine by grace through faith. It means that the law is no more so I don’t have to practice a festival or a feast or give an atonement offering or first fruits offering to get God to bless me, or heal me , or protect me or provide for me or my loved ones. Ephesians 1:3 “… who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” Galatians 2:19 “For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.” It means that there is no secret sin that is preventing me from being healed or set free or used of God or anything like that Hebrews 8:11-12, “… For all shall know me from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
My friends we are complete in Christ and have come to the fullness of life. We are free to live for Jesus Christ and free for Him to live through us. No curse, no law, no philosophy, no sin, no devil, or no person can stop the love and power of God from radically affecting the world for Jesus Christ.
