Are You Naturally Or Spiritually Minded?
I want to share with you a simple yet profound truth that many in the body of Christ have yet to realize. God’s intention from the beginning was to save us from three main things. They are sin (when I say sin I also mean the consequences of sin – sickness, poverty, death), the natural man (or soulish man) and the devil. I want to major in one of these, the one most neglected and that is the natural or soulish man. We hear people say all the time and quote Isaiah 55:8 “His thought are not our thoughts neither His ways our ways …” And my response to that is – then get saved! 1 Corinthians 2:9 says basically the same thing “eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared form them that love Him.” And usually they stop right there. But the next verse, verse 10 says “but God has revealed (past tense) them unto us by his Spirit,,, and verse 12: but we have received the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that God has freely given to us.” Do you see it? We can know all things, yes the deep things of God (verse 10 of I Corinthians 2) . So what’s the problem? Read verse 14. “But the natural man (the soulish man) receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned or understood.” Now these can be unsaved people who are governed by their senses or born again people who are governed by their senses and are not spiritually minded.
What does it mean to be spiritually minded? It means to think like God thinks. It means to be renewed in the spirit of your mind! It means to think and act in line with the Word of God. It means to be live and function as a spirit dominated being. Most people are dominated by what they feel or think. Christians need to be dominated by who they are. But many Christians, even those that have been saved for 20 or 30 years still think, and I know this by what they say, according to the natural man. When a person says I have this sickness or that, or I don’t think I can make it through this situation then they are thinking after the natural man. Your spirit isn’t sick, or weak, or defeated or anything of the sort. But we don’t distinguish between body, soul, and spirit, because, we are being dominated by the soulish or natural man. You see friends, sickness, weakness, and defeat, are not in your spirit and a spirit dominated person will overcome the natural man every time. Being spirit dominated is walking and living by faith in God’s Word irrespective of what the natural man thinks or says. And the spiritual man is who we really are!
